The Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB) also known as the Injuries Board, is the Board that has been established by the Government to see if certain claims can be dealt with by way of assessment without having to go to Court. All cases must go through the Injuries Board before they can go to Court.
First, we approach the other side, or their Insurance Company, to make an offer. If they do not make an offer, or if the offer is unacceptable, we will then bring your application to the Injuries Board.
We will bring the necessary Application to the Injuries Board on your behalf and deal with all matters that arise in connection with same. If the Injuries Board process is unsuccessful, or no settlement is made, we then bring your personal injury claim to court.
The amount of personal injury compensation you can be awarded depends on several factors, including pain and suffering experienced, financial loss, how your lifestyle is effected after the accident and the seriousness of the injury. The compensation for your personal injury claim, known as general damages, will be awarded based on medical evidence.

In certain cases after an accident or personal injury has occurred, a victim will be put under pressure to accept a lower settlement, or will be told they do not need a solicitor. However, a specialist personal injury solicitor will represent your best needs, and help you get the best possible claim. The Injuries Board is also encouraging claimants to apply without the services of a solicitor. However, a personal injury solicitor will also help you to get the best possible and fairest claim. The Central Bank, has also declared that personal injury solicitors will get higher value settlements than when a person self-represents.
All personal injury claims (with the exception of medical negligence claims) must in the first instance be referred to the Injuries Board.
